The next supermoon will be on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 4:26 a.m. PDT. This will be the third and closest of four supermoons in a row for 2024. But why is it called a “Hunter’s Moon”? Long ago, the informal nickname was given to the moon because it occurs at the time of year when hunters would traditionally have been ‘most active’ making plans for the coming winter months and hunting animals for food.
