I just found out one of my favorite shows, Abbott Elementary, is teaming up with It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia for a crossover episode! It makes sense—they’re both set in Philadelphia. The news first broke back in October when Charlie Day (It’s Always Sunny) shared a picture with Abbott Elementary creator Quinta Brunson (Janine) on Instagram, captioning it, “Oh. Hello.”
The crossover episode, titled “Volunteers,” airs on ABC Wednesday, Jan. 8. The premise? Abbott’s principal, Ava (Janelle James), announces that the school district is sending volunteers to help—cue the cast of It’s Always Sunny. Of course, things quickly spiral out of control. Considering It’s Always Sunny follows a group of chaotic Irish pub owners always scheming to make a buck, it’ll be interesting to see how their antics play out in a school setting.
Danny DeVito (Frank) teased that the It’s Always Sunny cast is bringing their signature chaos to the set, while the Abbott Elementary cast is holding their own. An odd mix? Definitely. But I can’t wait to see it for myself! If you miss it on its original air date, the episode will be available on Hulu afterward. Watch the teaser trailer here.
