Funk innovator George Clinton, The Doobie Brothers‘ Tom Johnston, Michael McDonald and Patrick Simmons, and The Beach Boys‘ Mike Love are among this year’s inductees of the Songwriters Hall of Fame. A songwriter with a catalog of notable songs qualifies for induction 20 years after their first significant commercial release of a song. The incoming class will be inducted on June 12th in New York City. This year was tight, with acts like Janet Jackson, Alanis Morissette, Steve Winwood, Eminem, N.W.A. and Sheryl Crow earning nominations but not making the cut!
